I climbed up the hill yesterday to visit the local Schützenverein for the first time. Not entirely unusual for the region you have to pass below the fire corridor to access the building
. I was duly introducted to a pleasant assortment of young chaps and old bearded fellows etc. The president asked me if I had a rifle to shoot at 300m, to which I replied "Yes, a ZFK-55", this was met by a blank look, even by the old beards across the table. I tried to explain what it was and even whipped out my smartphone to show them a picture but no-one recognised it for what it was. I know it might be a rare sight on firing points since it is not permitted for official competitions (not on the Ordonnanzwaffen list) but they should still know their Schmidt-Rubin series, especially the oldies who probably hefted it around the mountains occasionally in their youth.
